Lighting Tips for Home Staging
My clients are often surprised when I bring up the subject of their windows. We generally don’t think much about them, right? Well, cleaning windows inside and out (including screens) just prior to the home being listed is a very common, but important recommendation I make to my clients.
Nothing beats shining windows with natural light streaming through them! Each morning, make a point to open drapes/blinds/shutters so that if a showing takes place that day, you’re ready to not only show off your beautiful windows, but also to let the wonderful ambient light flood your home.
There are a few exceptions when it comes to opening up blinds/drapes/shutters. If the view from a particular window is not particularly pleasant or if the window looks into the neighbor’s bathroom, bedroom, etc., I suggest you adjust the blinds in a way that allows light in, but doesn’t put the view front and center.
If certain rooms don’t have a nice view, you might try sheer curtains, like these from West Elm that obscure a less-than-ideal view while still letting natural light in.

Finally, I always suggest that, in the winter months, screens are removed from all windows and stored in the garage. By doing this, you’re allowing that much more light into your home!
